Google Doodle: Google logo for Earth Day

Today, Google is celebrating Earth Day with a wonderful Logo on their homepage.

Google is known for changing its homepage’s logo matching international holidays or events.

So far this year, I’ve personally seen the following logos:

• Happy New Year & 25 Years of TCP/IP – January 1, 2008
• 50th anniversary of the LEGO brick – January 28, 2008
• Happy Valentine’s Day – February 14, 2008
• Earth Day – April 22, 2008

Check the official page for other international Google Logos that appeared so far in 2008.

However, this page does not cover the localized Google logo changes. For example, on 17th April, Google.be showed a logo with an Atomium to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Expo ‘58. (I found it on Googlified and on Zorloob). There is a special logo page for Google.be, check here, but it is not updated since 2005. Sad.

Also, I wrote previously about Google changing for 1 hour some of their homepages with black background color in relation to Earth Hour initiative on 29th March . This is not as such a Logo change but it is worth to mention anyway.

My view on these logo changes is: Google plays very cleverly with those one-shot/one-day homepage logo customization and certainly maintain a dynamic image around their logo by doing so.

Many of us go everyday on the Google homepage or its iGoogle version. It is always pleasant to see a special theme on a specific day/event.

Enjoy the Google’s Earth Day Logo while it still shows up.

Google Ads IRL

f I say Google Ads… 99% of people will think about this:

Google as a company exists also In Real Live and so naturally uses ads, IRL.

Check this article on Google Operating System: An Outdoor Campaign for Google Video. As highligthed by Ionut Alex Chitu, It talks about Google video but the video itself is from Youtube.

I like it. The interactions that the passersby have with the ads are funny to watch.

Protected Pages problem on WordPress

I need to turn off temporary the LittleG section and the “hidden pages”.

It seems that WordPress is not handling correctly the protected pages.

I’ve received reports from readers that where not able to access the protected pages despite having found the password to access the Level 1.

I’m sad and I’m working to get clarification on the issues and get a fix for the protected pages issues or find an alternative to continue the “Hidden Journey”.

Peertopistes, … Kézako?

Dear English readers … The body of this one is about French-made words, neologisms. Most of the article is written in French. Go and jump at the end of the article to get what you must remember from this…

Cher lecteurs Francophones, parmi mes lectures de news du jour, je suis tombé sur ceci provenant de Silicon.fr.

Au delà de l’intérêt ou non de la news, je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher de froncer les sourcils puis de sourire largement, très largement, à la lecture de cette phrase : C’est elle [L'Autorité de régulation] qui enverra des mails d’avertissement aux peertopistes. (Source: Silicon.fr)

Huh ? Peertopistes… Kézako?

Je recommence … Peertopistes… Euh… Erreur de frappe ? Euh…, à priori, non… Réfléchissons…, aaaah, visiblement grâce au contexte du paragraphe de l’article, cela devient clair. Utilisateurs de PeerToPeer, voilà ce que sont les peertopistes.

Oh mon dieu, quelle horreur! Encore une sorte néologisme malheureux.

Les Cyclistes, ce sont des utilisateurs de cycles, des vélos quoi. Donc les utilisateurs de PeerToPeer dans cet ordre d’idée deviennent des peertopeeristes (ils existent). Visiblement, ici, c’est une seconde forme du mot qui est privilégiée, les peertopistes (ils existent aussi). Ils sont probablement plus facilement prononçables. Enfin, deux variantes existent, ce sont les peer2peeristes et les peer2pistes (ils existent ici et là).

Wikipédia ne les connaît pas encore mais je vais y remédier.

J’imagine déjà la mutation des formes originales vers des versions plus francisées et encore plus obscures… “pirtoupiristes” et “pirtoupistes”…..

En fait c’est assez drôle la langue française n’est pas.

I guess you haven’t. Of course, these words don’t exist. The Frenchies went creative and wanted to refer to PeerToPeer user and so created new words. Never mind, Peer2Peer user is just as fine
